The goal

of the

Program

and why

we created it.

No group in gyms has grown at a faster rate than women of all ages. Women in past generations were seldom encouraged to workout, or if they did, they were told to do cardio to stay lean. This continues to change as we have access to more and better information about strength training for men and women. Yet women still face barriers and myths. More women echo some version of the “I don’t want to get bulky” myth than do not, when first interviewing a trainer. Not all gyms foster community and culture where women are left unbothered from advances and unsolicited advice. Even the deluge of conflicting information about training (and nutrition) from fitness professionals with different philosophies, celebrities turned fitness influencers, garden variety social media influencers, and the mainstream media, causes enough confusion to stall the best of intentions.

We have set out to cut through the noise and create a program for women to master the fundamentals of strength training, get stronger, feel confident in the gym, and support a lifetime habit dedicated to strength and health.

Who’s Behind The Scenes

Andrew Coates

I grew up playing every sport I had access to (in rural Newfoundland), which meant a lot of basketball, cross country skiing, and softball. I found my true passion for working out in the gym at 24 (almost 20 years ago) after some inconsistency and false starts (we’ve all been there). It turned into a career in 2010 and I’ve grown to love the experience more and more.

I’m a full-time personal trainer in Edmonton Alberta, splitting my time between Evolve Strength and my home studio. I write for T-Nation, Generation Iron, and other fitness websites, I host the Lift Free and Diet Hard Podcast, and I’ve been asked to speak at more industry conferences, in addition to hosting my own.

This program was created to support more people along their fitness journey.
